If you're attending GDC 2010 in San Francisco, be sure to attend En Masse Entertainment COO Patrick Wyatt's session Devs vs. Cybercriminals: Protecting Your MMO from Online Crime.
Session Description
You've just finished developing an MMO game that's massively fun to play. But are you ready for the onslaught of professional criminals who intend to use your virtual playground as a place to make money? Listen to a game developer who helped develop and publish five of the most successful game franchises ever created (Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, Guild Wars, and Aion) as he provides an overview of the game hacking issues you'll need to address, discusses his successes and failures preventing online exploits, and proposes solutions that may make you reconsider your design, development, and publishing processes.
Idea Takeaway
Attendees may be intimidated by the complexity of keeping online game-economies safe. But listeners will discover many of the pitfalls of securing an online game while learning techniques to mitigate these problems. Participants will hear the speaker's first-hand experiences with game hacks and learn how he addressed them in games such as Guild Wars, Starcraft, and Aion. Ideas will be brought to the fore that may make attendees consider their own game design, development, and publishing processes.
The session is from 3-4pm Wednesday, March 10 in Room 122 in the North Hall. Attendees can RSVP on the GDC Website.
